Be Careful What You Blog About

I'm sure that's exactly what local blogger Kyle at miamity.com has been thinking the past few days.

By the way and for the record...the entire UM football program shouldn't be crucified just because a few morons decided to record an obnoxious rap song that's probably not much different than what is heard and performed in many other college campuses. Oh, and it was recorded two years ago.

Being a Gator, I have a lot of reasons to hate "da U" and its fake front-running fans but I think this is the biggest non-story in the history of non-stories. First of all rap music itself is based largely on being derogatory, demeaning and misogynistic. Almost all college football players listen to it. So why is it such a big deal that some of them may actually attempt to perform it? So you can listen to Luther Campbell in your headsets but you can't "do a Luther Campbell" into a microphone. What kind of a double standard is that? Yes "da U" is supposed to be a place of higher learning, but colleges are also supposed to be places of free expression. If our society at large tolerates and celebrates the rap culture, then why is the media obsessed with talking about these no-talent rapping knuckleheads?
