Republicans in Trouble?

Re the Mark Foley case, can someone please tell me why morally responsible conservatives should give up on Republicans just because of the actions of a few?

If the Republican happens to be a scumbag like Foley, the answer is obvious. But some MSM stories seem to be taking this case as an opportunity to sound the alarm on Republicans in general. Take this Sun-Sentinel story as an example. Even George Will chips in here.

No doubt the Republican Party is at a sort of a crossroads right now. Many of its members are looking inward in order to identify problems with the party and trying to resolve the chasm that appears to have opened up from within. I don't see that as a bad omen for the Republican Party. I see it as a natural and healthy reaction to the apparent dominance of the more extreme factions within the party.

Lots of liberals are pouncing on the Foley incident to and pointing out the hypocrisy of the "Moral Party". If they want to focus on those individuals who have broken the law or committed unethical acts, go right ahead.

In the meantime, this conservative will vote for the people he feels will serve our country the best. Chances are, there will be a lot of good Republicans on that list.

Robert,

As a libertarian leaning Republican, I can say that none of this crap is going to change my vote and won't keep me from voting. In the end I think most people will vote on the candidates in their congressional district not the scandals going on in other districts.

Am I disappointed with Republicans? Yes. But what's the alternative? The Dems would only be that much worse.

You said it. I will never, ever, ever, never, ever, ever, ever, never vote for a Democrat again. A trained chimp, running as a Republican, is a better choice than all the Pelosis, Kennedys, Dodds, Rangels, Obamas, and Clintons in office.

I'm disappointed, too. I just don't trust a single Dem to do the right thing. None are worth a bucket of warm spit.

A there any criminal charges against Foley yet?I think some democrats rushed a bit too early on blaming Reps of covering up the matter, stealing Christmas, killing dinosaurs etc,it smells like communism. If FBI doesn't find anything I think the whole matter will turn against democrats,if not republicans are doomed.
What is known now that he betrayed his credibility and should resign, but still nothing ilegal.

Obviously both sides are corrupt but the republicans seem to be more corrupt and better at covering it up. With all the scandals in the republican party and Foley is the least of them I suggest vote democratica at least we will get an investigation of the corruption then.

I am hoping Barack Obama will be our future president. At least he has a backbone, a brain, some character which is more than I can say for our present choice ...
Your neighbor Democratic blogger ;)
